Heres a thought going into this new year, what if you actually executed on even one thing you said you were going to do? Pick one of those business ideas floating around in your head and run with it…. How’d it go?
If you are like most, you may have gotten into a stop in the road right before you took off! Sit tight and let me tell you what that roadblock was…are you sitting? Okay so it was not having enough clients to get the job done!
Make no mistake about it, finding clients is one of the most coveted missions for anyone who would like to own and operate their own business. Feel like you could use a hand on this area of your business? I have you covered in this post.
Referrals
Everyone loves a good referral. When you finally get the chance to be under someone else’s radar, you will be so excited about how much you can gain!
Especially when it comes to real estate, it is so important to find clients and having someone that can refer you is a huge plus. Think about all the time you could save if you got the chance to be referred by your network? I know this is easier said than done. Getting referred takes hard work and determination. Thankfully for you, I will make it easier by giving you a step by step way in which you can get referred!
Step 1: Since we are in the years of COVID, I would say sign up for sites like meetup, Lunchclub, and Indiehacker and eventbrite. These two sites offer you the chance to sign up for new events that are being offered daily!
Step 2: Do not come across as a sales agent. Be able to really listen to someone and be able to offer advice to someone else. Also provide value to someone else. One thing that people love is someone who will give them a tool or provide information that will push them forward.
Step 3: Be confident enough to ask for emails or phone numbers so you can follow up in the future. If you are kind enough, people usually just give this out because they feel you are the type of person they would want to speak with again!
Step 4: Make a follow up with the person once you feel they have a person that you would like to meet. This way they can refer you to that person. In the end it is all about establishing that relationship that will push you forward.
Step 5: Make an effort to continually provide value, tools and advice to that other person on a more person level. You never know when a friend might come in handy!
Forums
What is your niche? Who are you trying to reach out to? All these are important places to start when you are looking for the right clients for your business. I feel you have so many areas you can go with this but for me, I know it is important to find a niche and market the hell out of it.
One of the best places to do that is on a forum with dozens of people who actually have the same interest as you. All you BDR’s out there looking for a new way to contact clients, look no further, reach out to several people on those forums to find winning clients.
Here’s how you do it. (1) Find your niche and a popular forum like reddit (2) Next, look and see the problems they are having, see reviews about other companies and be that shoulder to cry on (3) Make a effort to address and pin point those issues in your very own post about those same companies and how your company is addressing the same issues!
Video
You know this was going to be first or second. Video marketing is increasing in popularity and if your company is not on Youtube you are about to be left in the dust. Youtube is the second greatest search engine out there. I once read about a lady that build her entire home from just Youtube Tutorials! Check that out here.
Although, do not think youtube is the only video content you have to create. Social media is going crazy for new video content from Facebook, Tik Tok, Instagram and more coming. People are absolutely drawn to things that move.
Want to know how to do it? Let me help. (1) Be an observer, listen to your clients and see what they know and don’t know about your services (2) take your time to compile a video addressing the issues that they may have with your services. (3) Do not get into analysis paralysis, make a quick 2 minute explainer on biteable or just post a youtube video of a screen record with a bubble of your face! Your audience will appreciate it.
Virtual Assistants
Hear me out on this one. I am about to tell you how most people across the globe find clients. It all comes down to data entry. Yup, someone sitting down in a chair who has been hired on Fiverr and Upwork to find names, emails, phone numbers, everything!
VR’s are the beginning of the process, they allow companies to find emails and phone numbers so they can compile great email templates and cold calls to reach out. It really isn’t a hard process either. If you have a computer, sign up to be a VR and get in on the action!
How is it done? (1) sign up for upwork/fiverr (2) Ask someone to find you names and emails (3) Send emails to prospective clients and cold call to people across the globe.
Now I know there is more to this one but for the sake of everyone reading, let’s move on.
Networking events
This is one of those strategies that is easier said than done. Networking events have been popping out of nowhere during this COVID madness. People need to find networking and be able to speak with someone as they are stuck up in the house all day. These events allow them to have an outlet into different lives, other than their own.
Want to know how to gain some clients from this? Well here is the easier said than done part. You have to speak with people over Zoom and literally ask them what they are struggling with in there business and then give your opinion… almost like a conversation… with a stranger. Are you up for this task? I really hope so because if not this post is not for you.
Here is what I did to get the chance to speak with someone on one of these networking events: (1) Signed up for the first B2B event I could find (2) Took part in the conference and learned more about the industry (3) Spoke awkwardly to 2-3 people over Zoom about what I like about there industry… they were happy to speak about themselves.
Conclusion

Forums, Videos, VR’s, and Networking are all pieces of the pie that can allow you to find clients that actually matter and winning over these same clients is not easy. It is up to you to take the time to actually have a conversation or make a video or enter a post on a forum or have a awkward zoom call.
Once you take the time to actually try and just focus on talking to the other person and learning about that person as much as possible, you will be surprised with the results!
As we roll into 2021, I want to leave you all with a great quote from one of my favourite books by Dale Carnegie:
“Talk to someone about themselves and they’ll listen for hours.”
Dale Carnegie – How to win friends and influence people
Year’s will pass by but you better do something with it…. I will take the same advice and write about it here. Hasta proximo.
