Latin America is one of the most lucrative places to do business. With several countries involved, Latin America is a major contributor to several of the worlds resources. Each country in Latin America has its own style and culture which gives them a unique perspective when it comes to sales. When it comes to doing business in Latin America it can often be a difficult task especially if you do not have experience. As someone who has been networking with Latin Americans and has taught English in a Spanish speaking country. I have noticed different tips that have helped people achieve within this market!

Full disclosure: I have only visited Mexico and the only Spanish speaking country I have visited is Spain but I feel there are still many details and experiences that can be taken away from my experience and the people I communicated with on a daily basis!

In this post, I would like to give you 5 tips to be successful in Latin America. These are tips that are based on personal opinion and experiences that I have had networking and meeting people within these markets! In this post you will find some of the tips that have been used by other millionaires and billionaires to have success in these countries. As Latin America is so diverse, I hope this post gives you a better idea of the many tools that you can use to become successful here.

When I speak about Latin America. I am speaking about the 4 regions that make up this area of the world. North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. With each region there are several countries, people, and cultures involved that make up this wonderful area of the world. Below you will find all 5 of the many tips for having success selling in Latin America.

Pay Attention To The Language

This has to be the first tip for you when you are visiting any of the Latin American countries. You need to be able to have conversations that take into account the many different cultures and traditions that are involved with each country. This will be one of the hardest task when it comes to networking and doing business within these markets.

It’s not all Spanish when it comes to Latin America. With the diverse landscape of people and industries, you need to know which country you are choosing to network and build contacts in! For example, Brazil is all Portuguese so if you don’t know this language you might want to hire someone that does. This will allow you to truly interact with the many different people you will meet in the country.

From person experience, it is a good idea to learn at-least a little bit of Spanish. I remember walking into a printing store and not knowing what to do. So it goes a long way when you take the time to pay attention to the language, it could be the deal breaker behind your big sale in Latin America.

Show Empathy and Friendliness

One of the best parts of Latin America is the friendly people you get to meet along your journey. Showing empathy and building your network can do wonders for whatever business you are trying to open within these countries. Most Latin American countries like to connect with people are more then just a business level. It is important that you show some personality and give people more then just the business style.

When it comes to doing business within Latin America, it could be advisable to provide gifts and experiences that can help you better engage with people. Try giving gifts such as experiences (Hotels, special offers, and discounts) and you never know what might happen. It’s all about doing what you can to build a partnership with that person and for me, taking the time to think about that person on a human level can make all the difference!

You need to be patient with Latin American countries as most projects take time to develop. Think about all the many relationships you have made in the past, you don’t just dive in, it usually takes time to develop a long lasting connection. It is no difference when it comes to developing a relationship with Latin Americans. Within most Latin American countries you need to plan out a longer sales cycle. For many good things in life, you need to be able to be patient and in these countries, it is no different.

Take the time to take a breather when you are with most countries in Latin America. Although when it is time for business, make sure to change into work mode!

Stay In Contact And Communicate

Following up and taking the necessary steps to truly communicate and build a connection is so important for anyone looking to do business and network in Latin America. As most people are in lockdown and unable to communicate all the time. It is important to look for more ways to improve that connection in anyway possible! This can be done through sending emails, letters, LinkedIn messaging, being a member of important issues, staying on top of trends and businesses.

When it comes to staying connected, make sure you are taking the time follow up and see how that prospect is doing. It can help you make a great impact and close the deal!

When it comes to marketing your products, you might want to keep an eye on your marketing campaigns. When it comes to conveying a message, sometimes your message will change given the country you are dealing with at the time. Keeping track of the country you are looking to communicate with is key! Make an effort to stay updated on local media and do research on your target business to determine the best course of action!
